Dubai: Al Faqa Police caught 123 wanted people in 2013, including 60 who had absconded from their sponsors and 19 who had entered the country illegally.

Some 46 criminal cases were also reported, as opposed to 109 cases reported in 2012.

The statistics were revealed during a visit by Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, as part of the annual inspection programme that visits all police stations and departments that are under Dubai Police.

Maj Gen Al Mansouri praised the station’s achievements and stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership between the police and the community, which Dubai Police is keen on.

Al Faqa police station recorded 21 traffic accidents in 2013 as opposed to 25 in 2012. The most common causes of accidents according to the records were speeding, not leaving enough space between vehicles and reversing recklessly.

There was a total of seven deaths caused by traffic accidents in the area the station is responsible for in 2013 as opposed to 2012.

Maj Gen Al Mansouri praised the decline in the number of criminal cases and traffic accidents, which he said was a reflection of the station’s performance.

He also commended the results of the survey, which measured the feeling of security of Al Faqa residents, as it went up to 98.8 per cent in 2013 from 96.5 per cent in 2012.
