Dubai: A worker took a masseuse by surprise when he hugged her from the back and groped her, heard a court on Thursday.

The Indian masseuse was said to have finished work for the day and was chatting with her two Thai co-workers on the pavement outside their spa in March.

As she stood in front of her co-workers, the 40-year-old masseuse felt someone coming suddenly from behind, according to records, and then two hands hugged her and touched her top.

The Indian woman turned around and discovered that it was her 29-year-old Filipino workmate.

Police apprehended the Filipino worker shortly after the woman complained.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with groping the woman.

The suspect pleaded not guilty when he showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday.

“I did not,” said the suspect as he handed presiding judge Urfan Omar a written waiver that he had obtained from the Indian complainant.

The masseuse told prosecutors that the suspect hugged her and groped her. “I yelled at him angrily and pushed him away when he did that,” she testified to prosecutors.

A 28-year-old Thai masseuse confirmed her co-worker’s statement and told prosecutors: “He slid his hands under her arms and groped her.”

A ruling will be heard on September 13.
