Abu Dhabi: A sorcerer allegedly preying on women seeking happiness has been caught by the Abu Dhabi Police in a sting operation.

According to police, the 57 year-old suspect claimed to possess supernatural powers to solve social, financial health and psychological issues.

In a bid to capture the suspected offender, authorities sent a policewoman disguised as a potential client to the man who said he would solve all her issues in exchange for a Dh70,000 fee per session for treatment.

Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammad Borshid, director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said that pieces of cut out paper with writings on them, in addition to talismans, powder, incense and herbs of unknown origin among other items were found with the sorcerer.

Borshid urged members of the public to refrain from dealing with alleged ‘sorcerers’ as these individuals pose a danger to others through their blackmail and trickery.
