Sharjah: As part of its continuing efforts to fight commercial fraud in the emirate, the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) says it seized 37,000 fake circuitbreakers bearing international brand names.

Hamad Al Midfa, Deputy Director of SEDD's Legal Affairs Section, said the department was able to seize the counterfeit electric goods before they could be circulated.

"The agent of the electric goods filed a complaint about fake electric products bearing international brand names being sold in the emirate. SEDD formed a follow-up team and has taken the necessary actions against those involved in trading in fake products," Al Midfa said. "As part of its strategy to fight commercial fraud and counterfeit products, SEDD was able to send its inspectors to raid the infringer's premises. It seized all the counterfeit goods after tracking the fake electric cables and was able to identify those who were receiving these cables and who were then selling them to shops inside and outside the country. Sharjah Police have arrested members of the gang, who have confessed to the charges."

Stressing the importance of the timely detection of counterfeits, Al Midfa urged members of the public and businesses with information about any suspicious activity in counterfeit goods to immediately report it by calling the department's toll-free customer service line on 600567777.

Ali Fadil of the Dispute Resolution Division noted that the counterfeit goods were seized by the SEDD in co-operation with inspectors from the Commercial Control and Protection Department.
