Indians applying for a Schengen visa to Switzerland will need to double-check their documents going forward.

According to a new update by VFS Global on their India website, only the documents listed in the official checklist for respective visa category will be accepted at the visa application centre (VAC).

“In the case of lengthy bank statements, only the first three pages and the last three pages will be required and accepted at the VAC,” the company said.

The rule has raised concern online, with some commenting that such a rigid checklist may not suit all applicants.

Official checklist

The following documents are part of the official checklist:

  • Valid national passport issued within the last 10 years and with at least three months validity after the scheduled return, with at least two blank pages.

  • One passport size picture with white background, not older than six months

  • Visa application form completed and signed by the applicant. If applicable, authorization of third person.

  • Introduction letter in original on a business letterhead from the employer/company. The letter needs to be signed and stamped by HR or directorate, mentioning position and duration of service. The applicant also needs a ‘no objection statement’ regarding the planned trip to Switzerland/Schengen states, mentioning of travel dates and purpose of trip.

  • Travel insurance

  • Flight reservation

  • Confirmation of hotel reservations, package tours, advance payments

  • Proof of financial status (salary slips, bank statements, personal ITR)

Other changes

VFS had recently announced minor changes in the application process for a Schengen visa to Switzerland from the UAE.

Effective June 18, 2025, applicants scheduling an appointment through VFS Global's portal, for travel to Switzerland, must first complete an online Visa Application Form directly on the booking platform.

This new requirement aims to streamline and enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the visa appointment system, according to a notice released by VFS Global.

The update means that the days of simply booking a slot and then filling out the form separately are over; the online application is now integrated directly into the appointment scheduling process.

This is similar to the application processes followed by France and Germany, who direct applicants to their respective websites.
