Dubai’s Theatre of Digital Arts, or ToDa for short, brought the curtain down on an incredible metaverse exhibition that immersed visitors into an augmented reality universe of what-ifs, transcending reality through the use of technology for a truly multi-sensory experience.

Running from May until the end of August for a hundred days, and welcoming thousands of visitors, ToDA’s Digital Extravaganza was made possible by 16 artists, including visual artist Jonathan Monaghan; Los Angeles-based Japanese designer Luna Ikuta; digital artist and ‘explorer of infinity, reality and consciousness’ Kevin Mack; motion designer Daniil Zuev; and digital videographer Arnaud Laffond.

ToDA’s new media spectacle showcased the best of alternate reality talents, presenting narrative journeys in the Metaverse created especially for Digital Extravaganza. Stories included “Out of the Abyss” about a horse ride; “Eyra” which took on the solarpunk alter sphere; a genetic engineer ‘biopic’ in “Afterlife”; and “Refuge/Refuse” about a futuristic world full of conspiracies.

Additionally ToDA took the opportunity to hold an open call for digital artists and their interpretations of the future, attracting more than a hundred entries from over 50 countries. You can check out the 10 lucky winners over on ToDA’s Instagram page.
