The Jabra Tag: Bluetooth headphone and mic

A fun idea that needs a bit more work

The Jabra Tag is a more casual, playful Bluetooth headphone and mic set. The dog tag styled ‘Tag’ can be used for both listening to music and making or receiving phone calls. It also features a built in FM Radio for when the music on your phone is just not enough.

The dog tag style setup lets you hang the headphones like a pendant round your neck, although you can also clip it on your top.

The tag itself has a silver front with three sets of buttons; the multifunctional Jabra button, a set of previous / next buttons and a dedicated FM radio button. There is a noticeable lack of a screen on the front to provide guidance.

At the bottom of the tag is a micro USB port for connecting to other devices, while the the volume control is on the side.

The bundled black in-ear buds do a great job of directing the sound to your ear while keeping external noise out. But if you find yourself wanting more, or already have a better pair of headphones, you can plug those into the tag. With this you’re essentially converting your standard wired headphones into Bluetooth enabled ones. You can control your music from the head phones with the previous and next buttons, while the Jabra button has the Play/Pause toggle.

The built-in mic has a noise filter for better sound quality on phone calls. Apart from windy conditions, the Tag does a good job of providing clear sound.

The tag will let you connect two Bluetooth phones simultaneously. That’s right, you can make and receive phone calls from two separate devices.

The FM radio button lets you scan through the frequencies and listen to the radio. The reception is decent, but there isn’t a screen or anything else to tell you what frequency you’re listening to, nor can you manually enter a frequency. The process of finding a stations feels drawn-out and is more frustrating than it is useful.

The battery life on the headsets is great though. You can get up to 7 hours of music and about 8 hours of talk time with a single charge.

The Tag comes in black and white and retails for Dh300.
