Abu Dhabi: Al Ain may have lost their Arabian Gulf League (AGL) title to Al Ahli, but the Boss have beaten the Red Knights in the nominations stakes for the AGL Awards, due to be announced on Saturday evening in Abu Dhabi.

The Garden City outfit have six nominees as opposed to Al Ahli’s four in the six categories including the Emirati Player of the Year, which their midfield maestro Omar Abdul Rahman is hot favourite to win.

Abdul Rahman and his fellow midfielder Fellipe Bastos are also shortlisted in the Fans’ Player of the Year category, while Al Ahli’s Romanian coach Cosmin Olaroiu will be confident of beating his Al Ain counterpart Zlatko Dalic to the Coach of the Year accolade.

The winners of the yearly awards, the nominees for which were named on Monday, will be announced on Saturday evening at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

They nominees were determined through voting by the coach, captain and manager from each AGL club and selected media representatives, who ranked their top five in each category.

The three players nominated in the Fans’ Player of the Year Award category were decided by votes by the Pro League Committee’s social media platforms.
