Dubai: The UAE will soon be hosting an inter-school cricket tournament with a difference. Former Indian all-rounder Robin Singh’s RS Sports Academy will stage a cricket league for all the UAE schools to spot talent and shoot videos of talented youngsters to provide advanced training through a High Performance Programme.

Singh, who was Team India’s fielding coach for two years from 2007 and was also part of Indian Premier League’s Mumbai Indians and many other teams around the world in T20 leagues, is now based in the UAE.

The tournament will be known as Aster Elite School League as it being backed by Aster DM Healthcare.

Vipul, Consul General of India, launched the tournament recently at Hotel Pullman Dubai Creek City Centre recently in the presence of Kerala Kings and England captain Eoin Morgan and West Indies two times T20 World Cup winning captain Darren Sammy.

Elaborating on the tournament, Singh said: “The tournament will be special in many ways and will follow T20 format and provide an opportunity for young students to get a feel of competitive cricket. To reach out to more youngsters there will be no entry fee levied for registration.”

The tournament will be a league come knock out event with semi-finals and final to be played under lights. The winning team would be presented with the Aster ESL Rolling Trophy. The league will also be supported by Transworld Group.

The RS Sports Academy has entered into a tie-up with M/s Sports Innovations Ltd., a Hong Kong based Sports Analytics Company, with Development Centre in Chennai, India. “They will assist us in ranking the school teams’ performances. Use advanced video analysis and technical performance parameters. This company would also assist in selecting students for High Performance program by RS Sports Academy,” said Singh who assured hands on mentoring and coaching by top International coaches from RS Sports Academy, interact and play with international players in different leagues and tournaments across the globe.
