Dubai: Humaira Tasneem will lead a strong UAE women’s team in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Women’s WT20 Global Qualifier to be played in The Netherlands from July 3.

UAE women’s team have of late made a huge impact in international cricket through a few creditable victories the selectors have picked a squad made of some all-rounders and consistent batswomen.

UAE will compete against Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea and hosts The Netherlands. The Emirates Cricket Board also denied that the team was leaked earlier before officially announcing the team yesterday (on Thursday).

Waleed Bukhatir, Emirates Cricket Board Member and Chief Selector, remarked: “This is a very exciting, and rewarding milestone for UAE Cricket. Our women’s team continue to go from strength to strength, (and) we are exceptionally proud of both the players and the coaching team’s unwavering dedication and commitment. We are confident they will put forward a very challenging and convincing campaign. We wish them a very successful 2018 Global qualifier, and to see our vision and goal to qualify and compete in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 come to fruition.”

The team will have an experienced newcomer in Chamani Seneviratne. She is a former Sri Lankan women’s team captain and played in five World Cups before. However, a notable omission is former UAE captain Charvi Bhatt, who has been a consistent performer.

Reserves are: Samiya Salim, Shivani Sathe.
