Dubai: Three new activities have been added as the Seventh Dubai Sports World was officially inaugurated at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) on Sunday.

Organised by DWTC in association with Dubai Sports Council (DSC), Dubai Sports World will be open from 8am to midnight daily (and until 1am during Ramadan) till September 2.

Among the additions made this year are a Ninja Warrior course, a dodgeball park, a trampoline park, a padel court and a dedicated yoga area for children. Considered to be the region’s largest indoor summer sports arena, the DSW will cater to 17 different sports while housing ten professional academies for visitors of all ages and skill levels.

“The idea behind innovating and bringing in new activities is to keep the residents of Dubai moving all the time. We admit that the summer months can be harsh, but this should not stop visitors and families who stay back from pursuing sports,” Saeed Hareb, General Secretary, DSC, told Gulf News.

“Over the past six years we have gradually increased activities here so that families can make this a destination. We have also made sure the place has grown steadily to cater to the needs of the local community and visitors,” he added.

DSW has experienced tremendous year-on-year growth since its inception in 2011. The venue provides training facilities to nurture young talent within the community, state-of-the-art facilities for sports enthusiasts to enjoy thrilling matches, and it hosts headline sporting events that reiterate Dubai’s status as a leading sports tourism destination.

Now in its seventh edition, DSW 2017 will feature a wide range of popular sports in an expansive air-conditioned venue spread across 25,000 square metres, covering Shaikh Saeed Halls 1, 2 and 3 and the Trade Centre Arena. The activities include 12 badminton courts by Shuttle Time Dubai, four pro-standard pitches for five-a-side football, four pro-standard pitches for seven-a-side football and rugby, six basketball courts, three tennis courts, a mini-cricket pitch, a volleyball court, a padel court, a wrestling ring, a state-of-the-art gym, a dedicated fitness studio, a cycling studio, a Ninja Warrior course, a trampoline park, a running track, a skate park, and a table tennis zone.

“We are committed to bringing a diverse range of sports and fitness activities together under one roof so that residents can maintain the momentum of an active lifestyle with a positive mindset throughout the hot summer months. Over the years, we have seen positive change when it comes to the adoption of a healthier lifestyle, and the impact is evident with the growing interest we are seeing from individuals, families and corporate organisations for sports and fitness activities available at the venue,” Ahmad Al Khaja, Senior Vice President, Venues, DWTC, said.

DSW brings together the public and private sectors including Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Emirates Global Aluminium, Masafi, Shuttle Time Dubai, Adidas, Ping Pong Dubai, Burjeel Hospital, ENOC, and more who contribute towards promoting a healthy and active lifestyle within Dubai and the UAE.
