Keep Welmax at bay to regain One World Powerboat Championship title
Dubai: Team Fazza further cemented their pedigree as world champions with an exciting start to finish win at the Emirates/Dubai Duty Free Grand Prix, the final round of the UIM Class One World Powerboat Championship off the Mina Seyahi waters at the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) here on Saturday.
With Arif Saif Al Zafe'in behind the wheel and Nader Bin Hendi at the throttle, the Dubai duo took the lead from the start and then weathered away a challenge throughout the race by the Norwegian pairing of Kolbjorn Selmer and Jorn Tandberg in their Welmax boat.
Raffaelo Chiulli, UIM President and Saeed Hareb, Managing-Director, DIMC presented the trophies to the winners in the presence of sponsors' representatives Salah Tahlak, Director, Corporate Communications, Dubai Duty Free; Ahmad Al Rumaithi, Member, UAE Marine Sports Federation; Saif Bin Markan from Victory Team and Khalid Bel Jaflah, Vice-President, Commercial Sales, Emirates airline.
Going into the final race of the season, Fazza had already been crowned world champions ahead of the Negotiator duo of Luca Formilli Fendi and Giovanni Carpitella.
Saturday's win and the 20 points took the Fazza tally to 212, while Negotiator took the runner-up position with 116 points.
Though not starting yesterday, Skydive Dubai ended in third with 110 points and GSG Ceramic Design and Welmax had to take the fourth and fifth positions with 95 and 91 points respectively.
Though third best at the end of yesterday morning's practice session, Fazza was off to a fantastic start with Welmax and GSG Ceramic Design in close pursuit.
