UAE athletes continue their fine display in West Asian Games
Dubai: The UAE continued their medal haul at the West Asian Games in Doha by clinching three medals on the fourth day.
The UAE won two silver medals in bowling and a bronze in swimming to add to their tally of six medals won in the shooting by the ladies team.
Hind Al Hammady won a silver medal in the ladies bowling singles. Hind scored 996 points. The gold medal went to Bahrain's Nadia Al Awadhi who scored 1,091 points. Kuwait's Noura Al Rowdhan won the bronze.
Mahmoud Al Attar won another silver for the UAE in the bowling men singles. Al Attar scored 1,346 points. Qatar's Saeed Al Hajery clinched the gold medal with 1,361 points and his compatriot Abdullah Al Qattan won the bronze.
UAE swimmer Khuwaiter Saeed won a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke.
Meanwhile, the UAE ladies shooting teams returned home on Sunday following a successful campaign in the West Asian Games where they won five medals.
Splendid show
Shamma Al Muhairi won a gold in the individual 25m pistol and the UAE team of Shamma, Aysha Al Qubeisi and Shaikha Al Rumaithi won the team gold medal in the same event. Aysha also went on to win a silver in the individual 25m pistol.
The UAE ladies team also won a silver in the teams 10m pistol. They comprised of Shamma Al Muhairi, Shaikha Al Rumaithi and Nariman Al Ajamy. Nariman won a bronze medal in the individual event.
The men's trap team also returned home after clinching a bronze medal. The men's team included: Hamad Bin Mejrin, Ahmad Bin Mejrin and Sultan Al Falasy.
The UAE have fielded four squads in the ongoing third West Asian Games in Doha. They are in shooting, bowling, athletics and swimming.
The UAE officials hope that the contingent will win more medals especially in bowling and swimming. The competition is tough with teams like Iran and Syria topping the medals table.
