Dubai: Top seed Magali de Lattre of Portugal and Marco Chiudinelli of Switzerland picked up the women's and men's singles titles at the ITF Dubai Aviation Cup on Saturday.
De Lattre, 21, easily got the better of Romanian opponent Alexandra Damaschin 6-3, 6-1, while Chiudinelli steam-rolled Monaco's Benjamin Balleret 6-1, 6-0.
Shaikh Hasher Maktoum, Director of Dubai Information Department and President of Tennis Emirates, presented the winners with their trophies.
De Lattre was in command from the start as she broke her Romanian opponent in the sixth game and then held serve for 5-2 before taking the set 6-3.
"I was not afraid to play my shots today, and though it was tough in the beginning, I knew I would be able to dominate her," said de Lattre.
Only reprieve
The Portuguese winner started off well in the second with a break at the onset, but Damaschin broke right back to make it 1-1.
That proved to be the only reprieve for the Romanian as de Lattre won the next five games to take set and match 6-1.
"The line calls upset me and that broke my concentration," said Damaschin.
Yesterday's win was the third of the season for the 21-year-old.
The men's final also proved to be a one-sided affair with Chiudinelli, who has played with a sore knee throughout the week, doing well to keep his opponent pinned to the baseline.
"That was the plan anyway...I wanted to dominate from the baseline and play faster than him," Chiudinelli stated.
The Swiss paid a lot of attention to his serve and that got him an early 3-0 lead in the first set following a break in the second game. Another break and Chiudinelli was 5-0 clear to serve out the set in less than half an hour.
In the second, the Swiss registered breaks in the first, third and fifth games for a 5-0 lead.
