Dubai: The Fujairah Tennis and Country Club (FTCC) has commenced its membership drive with immediate effect.

"We are nearly 90 per cent finished with the construction work," Abdul Gafour Behroozian, Chairman of the Board of Directors at FTCC, told Gulf News.

The foundation stone for the FTCC was laid by Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the presence of Shaikh Rashid Bin Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, on April 1 last year.

And the FTCC team has worked round the clock to ensure the facility is up and running latest by the end of this year.

"With a bulk of the work out of the way, we have launched our membership drive," Behroozian stated.

Dubai-based Delwood Consultancy Services has taken over the marketing of the FTCC. "Fujairah is going to be one of the main destinations in the UAE in the near future," stated Eric Gottschalk, general manager at Delwood.

"We want the Fujairah Tennis and Country Club to be an upscale destination," he added.

The FTCC has been built on land donated by His Highness Shaikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah. His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has given Dh25 million to build the state-of-the-art facility.

The new club is spread over 42,000 square metres of land hugging the Hajjar mountains.

Besides a 3,000-seater tennis stadium, there are six outdoor tennis courts along with a health club, swimming pools, squash courts, food and beverage outlets.
