London: World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is hoping to meet Portugal and Juventus star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo during the course of this week’s Nitto ATP Finals at The O2 Arena.

Ronaldo watched along with his partner Georgina Rodriguez and oldest son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr as Djokovic breezed past American John Isner in straight sets late on Monday.

“I had colours of his club [Juventus] on my attire tonight. I’m sure he was happy to see that. No, it’s great to have big football star, a sports star like him, courtside watching tennis,” Djokovic said.

“He used to come and watch a lot in Madrid [at the ATP 1000 Madrid Masters]. He used to come watch Rafa [Nadal], Roger [Federer] and myself. He’s a fan of tennis. It’s really, really nice as he’s one of the biggest sports stars in the last decade. It’s great for our sport to have him there.”

With mandatory post-match routines with the media, Djokovic didn’t get the time to meet up with the football star after his win. “I saw he was there with his family. But I didn’t get a chance to see him after the match,” Djokovic said. “But hopefully I’ll have that chance maybe later this week,” he hoped.
