Dubai: SkyDive Dubai and Warsan 11 eased their way into the next stage of the volleyball competition at the Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Championships being held at the NAS Club.

SkyDive Dubai did well to earn a 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20 win over Shaikh Hamdan Office, while Warsan 11 had powered their way to a 25-12, 25-13, 25-16 victory over Studio Zabeel to set up a meeting against each other in the knockout stages of the competition late on Saturday.

Held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council (DSC), the annual event has a total prize offering of Dh 7 million for winners in all activities.

The volleyball tournament got under way last Thursday along with Padel Tennis competition that has attracted some of the top players in the world. The five-a-side futsal tournament involving 20 teams is scheduled to start from July 18.

Besides the regular competitions, there are one-off competitions that are being organised, including a 70km cycle race (July 26), an exhibition football match most likely involving Dubai sports ambassador Diego Maradona and former Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado (July 19) and a 10km race that was held last Friday with a total prize fund of Dh850,000 for each of these activities.
