Prince Faisal pursues peace through youth sports

Dubai: President of the Jordanian National Olympic Committee (NOC) Prince Faisal Al Hussain has a vision to see an integration of youth through sport.

It is with this aim in mind that Prince Faisal founded his ‘Generations For Peace' in 2007, and since then the initiative has successfully reached out to thousands of youth in 31 countries worldwide through the camps that they have conducted.

"Though our initiative is focused primarily in Asia and Europe we have plans to reach out to Europe and the Far East and even in Latin America in the near future," Prince Faisal told Gulf News.

Since becoming president of the Jordan Olympic Committee in 2003, Prince Faisal has worked tirelessly to place Jordan on the world map of sport and has successfully attained worldwide recognition through his initiatives and hosting international events.

He has also been a member of the IOC's Women and Sport Commission since 2006, and the same year Jordan was awarded the 4th IOC World Conference on Women and Sport 2008.

Since establishing ‘Generations For Peace' he has tried to run dedicated peace programmes to empower, train and support leaders of youth from conflicted communities around the world to use the power of sport to unite children and youth from all sides of their divides and contribute towards a sustainable peace.

"Sport is no longer a luxury now, but a vehicle for values and beliefs worldwide. Sport cuts through boundaries and barriers and we need our youth ... to make this a better world," Prince Faisal said.
