Abu Dhabi: Majid Al Ameri, a 28-year-old businessman from Abu Dhabi, accomplished a unique feat by travelling all the way from Khor Kalba in Fujairah, to the Saudi Arabian borders before returning to Abu Dhabi on a jet ski.

The 20-hour trip spanning 970 kilometres started on Friday and came to a halt at the Abu Dhabi Corniche yesterday.

The proud UAE national was received by his father, Salem Al Ameri — owner of Empros, a water sports company where Majid is the general manager — many spectators and officials.

"I am overjoyed that I have completed this task," Majid told Gulf News yesterday while resting after his exhausting trip.

Most deserving

"It is always great to do something that nobody else has done before and at the same time to help the needy ... I do believe that disabled children are the most deserving of our support and help."

Al Ameri is aiming to collect about Dh500,000 in donations from big businesses and national companies who have already started showing an interest in donating for the noble cause.

"I have always been fascinated by the sea. My entire life was spent practising water sports as an amateur because my obligations never allowed me time to play as professional.

The donations will be for the benefit of the Future Centre for special needs.

People can donate as little as Dh5 by sending a message to 4643.
