Dubai: UAE’s experienced judoka, Ivan Remarenco, went down 10-0 to Canada’s Shady El Nahas in their Round of 32 clash in Tokyo Olympics on Thursday morning. Victor Scvortov, the naturalised Moldovan judoka and a medal hope, had exited earlier.

Hassan Al Noubi, UAE sprint star and national champion over 100m and 200m, will run in the men’s 100m heats on Saturday as the track & field events get under way on Friday.

Yousuf Al Matrooshi, their young swimmer and flag-bearer at the opening ceremony, had finished third behind Yemeni Mokhtar Al Yamani and Andrew Chetcuti of Malta in his heat with a timing of 51.50 secs but was ranked 50th overall in a field of 70 in 100-metre freestyle category.

“It is an experience I can take forward, firstly to the Fina World Swimming [short course] Championships,” he said later.

Earlier on Monday, Saif Bin Futtais bowed out of the skeet shooting, finishing 24th while Scvortov exited the judo. The Emirati judoka was defeated by Sweden’s Tommy Macias in the 77kg class round of 32.
