The India men’s hockey team defeated Great Britain 3-1 in their quarter-final clash to reach the semi-finals of the Olympics Games after 49 long years.

The Boys in Blue scored struck early through Dilpreet Singh and Gurjant Singh before Hardik Singh sealed the win late on for the eight-time Olympic champions.

Team GB had made India sweat when Sam Ward pulled it back to 2-1 after 45th minute before India settled the nerves with their late strike.

India last prevailed back at the 1980 Moscow Games and have never made the semis ever since. They now face an even sterner test as they take on world champions Belgium in the semi-final on Tuesday.

Belgium defeated Spain 3-1 their quarter-final to seal their place in the last four.
