Artistic gymnastics is a sport which requires competitors to demonstrate strength, flexibility and balance in the lightest and most graceful manner possible to the judges.

Men must make use of six apparatus: floor, vault, horizontal bar, parallel bars, pommel horse and rings. Women, meanwhile, must use four: floor, vault, uneven bars and balance beam.

Nine judges issue a score to each gymnast immediately after they have completed their display. They asses the level of difficulty and technical quality of each movement and look for perfect execution.

Medals are awarded to each individual and team as well as for performances on each piece of equipment.

When: Saturday August 6 to Thursday August 11, Sunday August 14 to Tuesday August 16 Competition: Team and individual
