Dubai: Sarwar Nazari and Mohsen Faraj from the International Kickboxing Network Club shared the gold medal in the light welterweight category (63.5kg) in the first Open Dubai Amateur Muayhtai Championship last week.

Organised on a specially-built ring on the Le Meridien Mina Seyahi grounds, the judges for the day decided that there was very little to separate the two fighters.

In the welterweight (67kg) category, the first place was won by Najmeddin Al Haddad, while Malek Omarov from the Dubai Fight Academy Club took the top honours in the light middleweight class (71kg).

Gulam Hussaini from the International Kickboxing Network Club took gold in the middleweight (75kg) and Daniel Alexander from Club Mina was declared champion in the light heavyweights (81kgs).

Dominating the show

Anton from the Dubai Fight Academy Club dominated in the super heavyweight division (over 91kg) and Abdullah from the Rashidia Club won in the lightweight division (60kg).

Dubai Fight Academy officials Mohammad Abbas Ahmad, Vladimir Burdun and the International Kickboxing Network president, Abdullah Ghchazimi, presented the medals.

The Open Dubai Amateur Muayhtai Championship 2006 was the first of regular muayhtai tournaments organised by the Dubai Fight Academy.
