Dubai: The Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ACTUAE) has continued its key role in the development of motorsport in Africa as a training team carried out a three-day visit to Tanzania.

The ACTUAE mission provided vital guidance to Tanzania’s national motorsport authority in its efforts to establish karting in the country.

Representatives of the UAE organisation’s training and education arm, the Motorsport Knowledge Institute (MKI), conducted the training programme in Tanga on behalf of the Automobile Association of Tanzania (AAT).

Among the members of the MKI team was Guy Sheffield, General Manager of Al Ain Raceway, whose own kart club organises the successful UAE Rotax MAX Challenge, the official national karting championship.

“By introducing karting, the AAT is creating grassroots motorsport in the country with the aim of attracting a new generation of young drivers,” said ATCUAE President Mohammad Bin Sulayem.

“This is essential to give the sport a bright future in Tanzania, and we’re very happy to lend our experience and expertise to make sure karting has a good start there.”

This was the third MKI training programme carried out in Tanzania in the last two years.

It was also the 25th programme to be delivered by the ATCUAE across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and South America since it was awarded Regional Training Provider status by the FIA Institute in December 2012.

Last month, the MKI carried out on-the-job training for a team of motorsport officials from Morocco during the 2014 F1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit.

Training has also been carried out in Africa for the national motorsport authorities of Algeria, Egypt, Sudan and Botswana, as well as for the Confederation of African Motorsport Clubs.
