Presumably you have visited Talking Torque today because you are bored. The F1 teams are all holed up in their factories sniggering at McLaren, the circuits are unused and at the mercy of the elements, and Bernie Ecclestone is planning his next unscrupulous move to get what he wants. So with F1 all quiet, why not keep the racing bug alive and pay a visit to Dubai Autodrome this weekend?

Fear not, there is something happening, and if you know how to use a computer mouse, you can even get a free family pass for the race weekend

The Hankook 24Hour Dubai endurance race kicks off on Thursday, January 14, with the race starting at 2pm on Friday. After the F1 in November, it’s the UAE’s biggest annual circuit race.

The race features several sub-classes split across four primary classes: petrol touring cars up to 3500cc, diesel cars up to 3000cc, GT cars, and a special open class. Drivers come from all over the world and race in teams of two to five and it’s all jolly exciting. It’s even on TV.

The Dubai round is the first of the six races that make up the season, with rounds also running at legendary circuits Mugello, Zandvoort, Paul Ricard, Barcelona, and Brno. We couldn’t count how many teams have entered, but there are a lot. I’ll leave you to flick through here

You won’t be expected to cram matchsticks between your eyelids and endure 24-straight hours in the grandstand, but the race is certainly worth a watch.

If you have a spare hour, here is a video of last year’s race to give you an idea of what to expect.
