Tests will help team decide who to opt for
The Ocean team, based in Portugal, feel the two test races here in Abu Dhabi will help them take a decision on who will be representing the team both in GP2 and in the GP2 Asia series.
Leimer has been given the chance after his excellent showing in the tests in Jerez, Spain.
Ocean team principals Jose Guedes and Tiago Monteiro stressed that Abu Dhabi will serve to continue the analysis of drivers for next season.
"We enjoyed the benefit of Fabio Leimer and decided to give him another opportunity to test, this time in the race. Fabio is a young Swiss talent but now in Formula Masters has shown that talent, to win the championship," Monteiro said.
"Alexander Rossi is an American and is just 18. He was fourth in his debut season in Formula Masters, a year in which he also adapted to Europe, which is quite different. In December he will test a Formula 1 with BMW, and this participation is regarded by him as crucial in the process of adaptation to single seat high performance of GP2 and F1," Monteiro said.
Explaining Ocean's strategy, Guedes said: "This first step comes in the middle of the testing phase and the second round of the Asia Series will only happen in February, so it is too early to make decisions. Thus, most of the teams see the first round as a test run, but that does not alter the determination to achieve a good result. We rely on two riders who will be on board our cars and we believe we have all the conditions to do well."
After the first round of the GP2 Asia Series Ocean returns to Europe for three days of collective testing at Paul Ricard, France. Between November 12 and 14, the team will evaluate Antonio Felix da Costa, Charles Pic, Christian Vietoris and Nelson Panciatici.
