Dubai: Steve McLintock and Yousuf Cummings all but sealed their championship titles at the end of the sixth round of the UAE National Karting Championship held at the Dubai Autodrome yesterday.

McLintock was at his fiery best, recording his fifth win this season to take his total to 101 points in the heavy weight class.

In the light weight class, Cummings was upstaged by the talented Christophe Hissette, but that did not stop the overall leader from further consolidating his position at the top of the standings.

Yesterday's 15 points give Cummings an overall tally of 95, way too much for any of the pack to catch up with just two rounds remaining.

Hissette, as usual, has been brilliant winning the top place in all three races he has competed in so far to take his tally to 60 points. However, Hissette leaves for the UK to pursue higher studies this Monday, putting himself out of the competition.

"I don't think I will come back to Dubai to take part in this championship," Hissette said.

"But I will be back here next month for the Gulf final of the Rotax Max Challenge."

The best endorsement came in the heavy weight class as McLintock swept past the field for the race and the overall title in one breath. "To compete and win against such a class field of drivers is pretty satisfying," he said.

"My focus now is to train young drivers. And my son Scott will definitely be one among these youngsters. I think he's got an unbelievable talent for driving," McLintock said.

Edward Jones took the honours in the cadets class, nearly assuring himself of the overall crown. "I just need one more point and I will get it next time," Jones said. In other races, Asad Rahman and Sean Murphy won in the Juniors and RM1 classes respectively.
