Abu Dhabi: James Hogan, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said that Abu Dhabi hosting the 2010 Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix makes Abu Dhabi a global destination for sports tourism.
In an interview with WAM, Hogan said that tens of thousands of people came to Abu Dhabi to watch the race, and more than 600 million TV viewers witnessed the event which took place in the Yas Marina Circuit.
Hogan said that the race is a globally prominent sport event, referring to the success it has achieved during its second round, and added that it was chosen by international sport bodies as one of the most popular sport events in 2009.
He said that this event has given Abu Dhabi a special position on the regional and international stage.
