New Indian Model School (NIMS), Dubai, once again displayed their supremacy in the eighth edition of the NIMS Inter- School Volleyball tournament.

Defeating Central School, Dubai 26-24, 25-19, 25-12, NIMS emerged as the champions for the sixth time in succession.

NIMS played like champions from the start. Central School, who stunned last year's runner-up Gulf Indian High School in the semfinals, put up a good fight.

NIMS skipper Deepu Sashidharan and spiker Cibin Babu Jacob combined well to win the first set 26-24.

Though Central school spikers Jaffar Ali and Fatha rose to the challenge, they could not beat the excellent blocks from NIMS' Mohammad Bashir and Ramzeen. NIMS went on to win 25-19.

Central School players, disheartened by their two successive set backs, surrendered meekly in the third set 25-12.

Cibin Babu Jacob of NIMS was adjudged the best spiker while Mohammad Bashir won the best defender award. Jaffar Ali of Central School bagged the most promising player award.

Earlier, in the semifinals, NIMS beat Indian High School, Dubai 25-18, 25-19, 25-11.

Jasim Rajab, Secretary General, UAE Volleyball Federation, gave away the prizes in the presence of Mohammad Naseem, principal NIMS, Mirza Graib, principal Central School, and Surendran Nair, the vice principal of NIMS. Twelve schools from the UAE participated in this tournament.

Talking to Gulf News after the victory, Nishtar, the coach of the NIMS team said: "Our domination in this tournament is mainly due to the hard work and dedication of the boys. We've continued our domination in inter-school volleyball mainly due to the enthusiasm of the boys and the encouragement from the parents. The management also back our team very well by providing all facilities."

Nishtar also revealed that his team's next plan is to win the volleyball tournament to be hosted by Central School.

"The boys are determined to go flat out to win that title too next month."
