New York: The Yankees beat the Mets 6-1 in Friday’s opening game of the all-New York interleague series, ending the Mets’ record-tying 11-game winning streak.

The victory kept the Yankees equal top of the American League East standings along with Boston, while a game behind that pair, Tampa Bay moved level with Toronto by trouncing the Blue Jays, while AL leader Kansas City had their game against the Chicago White Sox suspended due to rain with the scores tied in the ninth inning.

The Los Angeles Dodgers stayed top of the National League West with a shutout win at San Diego.

The Yankees’ win owed most to a pair of two-run homers by Mark Teixeira.

Starter Michael Pineda (3-0) allowed one run in 7 2-3 innings, his longest outing with the Yankees, who won for the seventh time in eight games and posted their first home win against the Mets in five attempts.

Los Angeles pitcher Zack Greinke extended his mastery of NL West opponents by holding San Diego scoreless for seven innings, guiding the Dodgers to a 3-0 victory.

Greinke (3-0) improved to 21-1 with a 1.88 ERA in 31 games against division opponents since joining the Dodgers in 2013. He is 15-0 in his last 19 starts against NL West teams.

Carl Crawford hit a homer for the Dodgers, who had lost their previous three games, and instead inflicted a three-game skid on the Padres.

Tampa Bay’s James Loney, Rene Rivera and Tim Beckham each hit two-run homers, powering the Rays to a 12-3 win against Toronto.

The home runs by Loney and Rivera came in a four-run fourth inning off R.A. Dickey (0-2) as Tampa Bay earned a third straight win.

Kansas City’s game at Chicago was suspended at 2-2 after eight innings.
