Dubai: Veteran left-arm spinner CTK Mashood helped ANIB XI On Top emerge as the inaugural champions of the Legends Cricket League at the Ajman Cricket Council ground.

ANIB XI, who also lifted the Kashmir Twenty20 League title at Umm Al Quwain last month, extended their winning run by beating Moaza Saif in the Legends Cricket League final by 79 runs.

It was a superb show from Mashood as well as UAE player Prashanth Braggs, who drew on their years of experience.

After winning the toss, ANIB XI piled up 224 for 4 through Braggs’ breezy 96 runs off just 48 balls, studded with nine sixes and six boundaries.

Moaza could muster only 145 runs in 16.5 overs in reply with Mashood picking up 3 for 28. Sulthan chipped in with 3 for 32.

Braggs was declared the man of the match for his superb show with the bat.

Mashood, who has represented Kerala in the Ranji Trophy, had also plotted the downfall of Omega Insurance with a spell of 3 for 22 in the semi-final to bowl them out for a paltry 88 runs from 17.5 overs. ANIB had earlier posted 187 for 5 in their 20 overs.

In five matches, Mashood bagged two man-of-the-match awards and deservedly won the Legend of Legends award.

The tournament, which saw 12 teams compete, was held under the patronage of Ajman Cricket Council.

Anil Kumar, of organisers Willows Sports Management, told Gulf News: “It was a tournament meant to bring youngsters and veterans together. We had insisted that every team must have one legend in their playing 11 aged above 40 and we are delighted with the success of the tournament. In fact, the next edition of the tournament will be held during the next Ramadan.”

Moaza Saif reached the final by beating Gulf Healthcare International in the other semi-final.

Moaza posted 193 for 7 in 20 overs riding on Shehzad Malik’s unbeaten 95 off just 38 balls. GHI fought hard, but could muster only 175 in 18.4 overs despite good knocks from Davood (51 off 31) and Adnan (42 off 33). Shanib was the destroyer in chief with figures of 4 for 32.

Malik, who was adjudged man of the match, also hit 49 runs in the final and won the player of the tournament award with 184 runs and six catches.

M. Hussain of GHI CC, who scored 248 runs, was declared best batsman, while Faizal of GHI CC with 12 wickets won the best bowler award.
