Cambridge High School from Abu Dhabi defeated Dubai Scholars 1-0 in the final of the eighth edition of the girls' under-18 inter-school hockey tournament.

The lone goal was scored by Zuainine Smuts at the Sharjah Wanderers Club. Smuts was also adjudged the best player of the event.

In the boys' under-18 final, Sohar Secondary School from Oman retained the title. They destroyed the hopes of Sharjah's Pakistan Islamia School of keeping the trophy in the region.

Taufiq Saeed scored the match-winner in the ninth minute of the 15-minute game.

However, Pakistan Islamia's Sajid and Saqib Hamid were declared the best defender and player of the tournament respectively. The best forward award went to Sohar's Kazim.

Thirty-six teams took part in this two-day event backed by Sun And Sand Sports.

"It was two days of exhilarating hockey. The large turn out of parents and students revealed that the support for the game exists in UAE," said Eusebio Coelho, Chief Organiser, Lusitanians Hockey Club.

Shaikh Rashid Al Maktoum High School Dubai ‘B' team won the boys' under–12 title. They beat their A team 2-0 in the final.

The teams were tied 0-0 at full time. In the tie-breaker Naeem Ramzan and Mohammad Nihas were on target.

Farookh Maqsood was the star of the B team's win in the the semifinals against St. Mary's. He was adjudged the best forward, while Mohammad Elyas bagged the best defender award.

Gareth Dias of St Mary's was declared the player of the tournament.
