Islamabad: The stadium in Islamabad in memory of late Olympian Mansour Ahmad will be built in one year’s time, according to a Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) official. “The grant for stadium and astro-turf had been approved and hopefully the stadium will be completed in six months to a year’s time,” he said and added the stadium will be built next to the Naseer Bunda’s Hockey stadium. Ahmad, 49, passed away on May 12 after suffering for weeks from complications stemming from a pacemaker and stents implanted in his heart. He had become a sporting icon in Pakistan’s hockey circles after helping the country win the 1994 World Cup in Sydney with his penalty stroke save against the Netherlands in the final.
