Organisers are infamous for maintaining tall rough along the edges of the fairways
Dubai: The US Open golf tournament has long been considered one of the toughest among the four major championships, largely due to its challenging courses. This year’s venue, Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, is no exception, where precision in keeping the ball on the fairway will be crucial.
US Open organisers are infamous for maintaining extremely tall rough along the edges of the fairways, making it nearly impossible to locate the ball if it lands in the thick grass—and even more difficult to play from there.
Recent footage released by the US Open shows greenkeepers battling the dense rough at Oakmont, highlighting just how demanding the course will be for players.
Known for its notoriously long grass in the rough, Oakmont’s grounds crew has deployed an army of lawnmowers in an effort to tame the wild terrain. Videos shared on social media demonstrate how a ball dropped from knee height almost disappears into the thick rough.
Sportswriter Chris Harlan summed up the scene perfectly: “Oakmont Country Club has a fleet of lawnmowers out today for the US Open.”
