His 18-under-par total set a new record for the lowest score in tournament history
Ahmad Skaik described his performance at the 2025 GCC Golf Championship as the best of his career after claiming both individual and team gold medals for the UAE at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Saudi Arabia.
Skaik’s 18-under-par total of 270 set a new record for the lowest score in GCC Golf Championship history and marked the largest winning margin in the tournament’s individual category.
His dominant display helped secure the UAE’s first-ever team gold medal, with teammates Jonathan Selvaraj, who earned bronze, Rayan Ahmed, and Sam Mullane all contributing to the milestone achievement.
In the individual standings, Skaik finished an incredible 15 shots ahead of the silver medalist, while Selvaraj’s four-over-par performance saw him edge Mullane by one stroke to claim bronze. Ahmed rounded out the team effort with a sixth-place finish at nine-over-par.
“Words can’t describe how this one felt,” said Skaik. “Winning gold medals both individually and as a team in the GCC Championship with scores of 67, 69, 66, and 68 (-18) to win by 15 shots in the individual category.
“Always good to make history, especially when you are representing the country. This is by far the best golf I have ever played. All the hard work is paying off.
“I want to thank my team for the week and also the guys that helped me achieve this - Serghini Faycal, Matthew Stevenson, Allister Parlane, Matthew Brookes and of course Emirates Golf Federation for all the support. The best is yet to come.”
The UAE men’s team finished the tournament at a combined 20-under-par, a staggering 37 shots clear of second-placed Qatar, while Bahrain secured bronze in the team event.
The UAE’s success extended to the U18 division, where the youth team captured bronze in the team category. Mohammed Thabet led the way, earning an individual bronze with a 22-over-par finish. Abdulla Kalbat and Abdulla Salmeen also contributed, finishing ninth and 15th, respectively.
EGF Vice Chairman General Abdullah Alhashmi praised the team’s historic performance, saying, “We have truly shattered records with an incredible performance. A heartfelt thank you to our players for their hard work and determination. This was a true team effort, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
