Rory McIlroy has become just the second golfer in PGA Tour history to surpass $100 million in career earnings, joining the exclusive club alongside Tiger Woods.

The Northern Irishman reached the milestone with a $338,000 payday for his tied-fifth finish at the Houston Open, taking his total prize money to nine figures.

Since making his PGA Tour debut in 2010, McIlroy has amassed 28 victories across 262 events, solidifying his status as one of the sport’s most consistent and successful players.

Woods, who leads the all-time earnings list, surpassed the $100m mark in 2012 and currently sits at $120m with 82 victories to his name.

McIlroy’s achievement places him ahead of other legendary names in golf. Phil Mickelson, now with LIV Golf, ranks third with $97m in career earnings from his PGA Tour days, while fellow LIV defector Dustin Johnson ($76m) and World Number One Scottie Scheffler ($75m) round out the top five.

Despite the financial milestone, McIlroy is facing a fitness concern ahead of next week’s Masters at Augusta National, where he will once again attempt to complete the career Grand Slam.

The 35-year-old revealed that he has been dealing with an elbow issue, which he hopes to resolve before the season’s first Major.

“My right elbow has been bothering me a little bit, so I’ll maybe just get some treatment on that and make sure that is OK going into Augusta,” McIlroy told the Golf Channel after his strong final-round 64 in Houston.

The Masters remains the only major missing from McIlroy’s collection, with his last Major victory coming at the 2014 PGA Championship. He has come close at Augusta before, most notably in 2011 when he squandered a final-round lead and in 2022 when he finished runner-up to Scheffler.

McIlroy has been in impressive form in the early months of 2025, winning both the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship. While he admits his game is still not at 100%, his recent performances suggest he will be a serious contender at Augusta.

“It was a solid week,” McIlroy said of his Houston Open finish, which included two rounds of 64. “[I] still don’t think my game is 100% under the control I would want, but it’s nice to have a week to work on some things.”
