The Dubai-based Pole won his first LIV Golf event on Saturday
Adrian Meronk has credited his time in Dubai for laying the foundation for his first LIV Golf individual title, a dramatic win at LIV Golf Riyadh.
The Cleeks GC player, who has lived in Dubai for two and a half years, showcased composure under pressure to secure a two-stroke victory over Sebastián Muñoz and Jon Rahm under the lights at Riyadh Golf Club.
His preparation for LIV Golf’s inaugural night tournament included rounds of night golf in Dubai, which he credited as critical to his success in Riyadh.
“I played a few rounds in Dubai, especially night golf, to get used to the shadows, the lighting, and the perception - it’s a little bit different, particularly on and around the greens,” Meronk explained.
“I really enjoyed it. The setup under the lights was really good, and I think most players liked it. Definitely, it was a nice tournament.”
Meronk’s adaptability was on full display during the final round in Riyadh. Starting with a two-shot lead, he extended his advantage to four strokes at the turn. However, his back nine presented challenges.
Consecutive bogeys at the 10th and 11th, coupled with a lipped-out birdie attempt at the par-5 13th, allowed Muñoz to draw level.
With the pressure mounting, Meronk delivered a moment of brilliance on the par-4 16th. His approach shot from 167 yards settled just four feet from the pin, setting up a crucial birdie to regain the lead.
Steady pars on the final two holes sealed his victory, as he finished at 17-under, two shots clear of Rahm and Muñoz.
“To be honest it's such a relief because the last couple holes it was a battle for me,” said Meronk.
“It started on the 10th hole. It was quite stressful. Then Sebastian made a couple of good birdies.
“But yeah, I'm super happy to be sitting here with the trophy in the bag. I'm super happy and satisfied. I've been working very hard the last couple of months, and I'm glad it paid off.”
The victory marked the Pole’s fourth professional title since relocating to Dubai, with three of his four DP World Tour wins coming after the move. It’s a place Meronk clearly treasures, and he has no plans to leave anytime soon.
“I really enjoy Dubai,” he said.
“I like living there. I've been there for over two and a half years. I think I won't be moving anytime soon.”
