DeChambeau is one of 12 LIV Golf League players participating at Augusta National
Bryson DeChambeau is confident that his limited schedule on the LIV Golf League won't hinder his chances at The Masters. In fact, he sees it as a "tremendous help" in boosting his chances of slipping into the Green Jacket.
DeChambeau is one of 12 LIV Golf League players participating at Augusta National from April 10-13.
That dozen were all in action at last week's LIV Golf League event in Miami, where a quintet of that group finished inside the top seven, including DeChambeau who finished in fifth.
That tournament marked just their fifth tournament of the season, while DeChambeau, in particular, has only played in one 72-hole tournament since missing the cut at The Open last July - a runner-up finish at the International Series event in India.
"I think that everybody has their own prep work that they do," DeChambeau said. "For me personally, I like having time off, getting ready for these events, focusing on them, and getting my game into a good place, getting a strategy and game plan set up. If anything, I think it's been a tremendous help for me personally, giving myself a little bit more time to get ready for these events, and it's honestly been a blessing for me."
"My prep starts the first tournament of the year, whatever that is. I kind of see where my game is at and kind of go off that and iterate off of it. I really start to heighten my focus probably two, three weeks before the start of the major season, and I get prepped in that kind of capacity."
DeChambeau shared a piece of the halfway lead at The Masters last year before finishing tied for sixth. He’s now focused on improving upon that performance and potentially securing his second major title in consecutive years.
"I was so grateful to be there and having fun and competing and being at the top of that leaderboard," DeChambeau explained.
"You're always going to feel nerves, no matter what tournament you're in and especially in majors. So yeah, was I feeling pressure? Yeah. Was I doing it for all of LIV? Sure, you can say that. For me, I'm just out there trying to win a golf tournament, and if that does great for LIV, then that's awesome. But for me, you're still just out there trying to win a golf tournament, and whatever comes from that is awesome."
