Fujairah: Fujairah Chess and Culture Club will organise a tournament next month meant to test the endurance and quick thinking of every chess player.

The unique event, in cooperation with the UAE Chess Federation, will be called Fujairah Endurance Chess Solving Championship.

Announcing the tournament at the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club, Dr Abdulla Ali AAl Barakat, the President of Fujairah Chess and Culture Club, said: “This tournament is about solving of chess problems and the participants must solve a series of different types of chess problem within a certain length of time. Points are awarded for correct solutions with minimum time taken. The lowest score at the end of the competition is proclaimed the winner.”

Mehdi Abdulraheem, Assistant General Secretary of UAE Chess Federation said that such a tournament is being staged to ensure that players here gets to learn how to handle various moves in a chess game. Even those below the age of ten can play in this tournament.

This tournament will be held at the Concorde Hotel in Fujairah under the patronage of the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. The event carries a total prize purse of Dh60,000 with the winner taking Dh9,000.

Jasem Haykal, the Head of Player Committee of Fujairah Chess and Culture Club said: “The tournament is open to all — be it from any club or community. Participants will compete in the three categories including Under- 10 years, Under-16 years and men. Each participating teams should consists of maximum three main players only.”
