Abu Dhabi: The Zayed Sports City Stadium is ready to host the Fifa World Club Cup, according to a top official.

"We are ready to host the event which was awarded to the UAE yesterday by Fifa," Mubarak Saleh, the administrative and financial director of the Sports City, told Gulf News yesterday.

"We are always ready to host big local and international football events. We have hosted many Gulf Cup tournaments, the finals of the Asian Cup in 1996, The Fifa World Youth Football Championship in 2003, UAE's match against Italian club Juventus to mark the occasion of the retirement of Adnan Al Talyani, UAE's friendly match against Brazil and the finals of many President's Cup.

'Great success'

"We have always achieved great success in these events because of the facilities for players, referees, mediapersons and spectators," Saleh added.

The Zayed Sports City has a capacity of 55,000 seats for spectators, besides seating 500 media members. The media platform offers connections for laptops and facilities for sending photos to every working journalist.

The lights within the stadium ensure superior quality pictures even during night games.

"We are confident about organising an outstanding World Club Cup, keeping in mind the success we have achieved in staging other international events in the past," Saleh said.

"I also believe that hosting such big international events will help promote the UAE and give the visitors a chance to realise the progress our country achieved in record time.

"Most importantly, hosting this event will help in promoting football in the UAE," he added.
