London: Striker Will Keane will miss the rest of the season because of a serious knee injury, adding to the problems of Premier League strugglers Hull City.

The 23-year-old, who joined from Manchester United in August having spent most of his professional career on loan to other clubs, is due to undergo surgery on his damaged knee ligaments on Tuesday.

Some reports suggest Keane, who won England caps at every age level including Under-21, could be sidelined for up to 12 months.

Manager Mike Phelan, who knew Keane from his time as assistant manager at Old Trafford, said it was a big blow for Hull, who are third from bottom in the Premier League and have been dogged by injuries.

“Everybody at the club wishes Will well for a full recovery ahead of what is going to be a long road back to action,” said Phelan.

“To lose a player of Will’s quality and potential for such a long period of time is a big blow, but I’m sure his determination and mindset will see him through the tough journey ahead.”

Hull are already without Uruguayan international striker Abel Hernandez, who will be out for another three weeks with a groin problem.

Phelan may now make a January move for Ravel Morrison, according to reports.

The 23-year-old midfielder is set to be offloaded by Lazio after featuring just eight times in 16 months for the Serie A club. Phelan, who worked with the talented player at Manchester United, is pondering whether or not he should go after the former West Ham United, Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City player, who appears to have lost his way in the game.

“We are looking at players who can come in and strengthen the squad in January,” said Phelan.

“Ravel is a talented boy. He’s had his ups and downs but I know what he’s got to offer.

“He has bags of ability that just needs harnessing in the right way.”
