Dubai: Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre believes his team can win silverware this season and end the Gunners' trophy drought of recent years.

"For the past few years the talk has been that Arsenal is a young side. But the players cannot stay young forever as they will be asked to deliver some day. I hope this is the season for Arsenal to deliver," Silvestre told media at The Sevens on Friday.

The 32-year-old Frenchman, who was a special guest of sponsors Emirates at the opening week of the Arsenal Soccer Schools Dubai, admitted he has been frustrated by the lack of trophies during the past few seasons.

"Arsenal is a big club and everybody expects them to win trophies each season. Everyone wants to do well and to start looking at silverware all the time, so it's frustrating when you don't win anything," Silvestre stated.

The versatile French defender joined Manchester United in 1999 and made a total of 361 appearances for the club until his transfer to the Gunners in August 2008.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, the former French international won a host of domestic titles including four Premier League crowns, one FA Cup winner's medal and a League Cup winner's medal. He was also a part of the Champions League winning side of 2008.

Now with Arsenal, the Frenchman hopes to pick up further silverware following encouraging signs in the Premiership.

"After winning away against Everton and Fulham we showed our true spirit.

"The real test for any team is winning away matches.

"I feel confident Arsenal will be fighting for the title this season," Silvestre insisted.
