Moscow: Alexei Paramonov, Spartak Moscow’s former attacking midfielder who was a member of the Soviet gold medal-winning team at the 1956 Olympics, has died aged 93, the club said Friday.

“Spartak Moscow football club express its deepest and sincere condolences to the family and friends of our legendary player,” said a statement on the club’s official site.

Paramonov, who joined Spartak in 1947, won four Soviet titles and two Soviet cups, scoring 63 goals in 318 Soviet league matches.

After hanging up his boots in 1959 Paramonov worked in the Soviet football federation for almost 50 years. (AFP)
