London: Wales international Ethan Ampadu has signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea, the Premier League club said on Wednesday.

Ampadu, who turned 18 last week, has impressed at Stamford Bridge since completing a move from Exeter City in 2017 and has already made seven first-team appearances.

“I’m really proud and happy,” he said in a statement.

“I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen.” said Ampadu, who can play in defence or midfield, and made his Chelsea debut in the League Cup victory over Nottingham Forest last season.

He has broken into the Wales team and earned praise from manager Ryan Giggs following his influential role in the 4-1 Uefa Nations League victory over Ireland earlier this month.
