For a moment, forget the need for a replacement for Alexis Sanchez. Forget about the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-Olivier Giroud transfer saga. Forget about whether manager Arsene Wenger should stay or go.

Arsenal have outdone themselves and foud another two problems for the price of one (albeit a possibly very costly one).

Goalkeeper Petr Cech’s howler against Swansea City has flagged up there need for a replacement between the sticks for the ageing Czech.

His clanger  condemned Arsenal to a shock 3-1 defeat at Liberty Stadium as the resurgent hosts climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone on Tuesday.

Cech miscued an attempted clearance that allowed Jordan Ayew to give Swansea a crucial 61st-minute lead.

result leaves Gunners manager Arsene Wenger still searching for his first away win of 2018 and they have only won one of their last five league games.

Cech was at fault in the loss to Bournemouth as he seems to be eternally stuck on 199 Premier League clean sheets. He has lost the edge that made him one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his trophy-laden time at Chelsea and Wenger needs to get a long-term replacement in pronto.

Now, when does that transfer window shut? Tick-tock, Arsene, tick-tock...
