The stars of yesteryear lit up the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, as Real Madrid Legends claimed a 2-0 victory over Barcelona Legends in a nostalgic edition of El Clásico played in front of an adoring Indian crowd.

Goals from Fernando Morientes and David Barral sealed the win for the Madrid greats, who made the most of their chances in a match filled with flair, familiar faces, and a touch of footballing magic.

The opener came in the 14th minute after a slick team move started by Luis Figo and Michael Owen carved through the Barcelona defence. Morientes was on hand to finish it off with trademark composure, giving Los Blancos the early advantage.

The likes of Xavi and Rivaldo rolled back the years in search of an equaliser, with the Brazilian twice coming close to equalising as he danced past defenders and unleashed powerful efforts just wide of the mark.

The second half saw the long-awaited debut of Phillip Cocu in a Barça Legends shirt, and with Javier Saviola adding energy off the bench, the Catalan side looked increasingly threatening.

But against the run of play, Madrid delivered the decisive blow. In the 69th minute, Barral weaved past both Carles Puyol and Frank de Boer before calmly slotting the ball past Jesús Angoy in goal to make it 2-0.

Despite spirited late efforts from Giovanni and the ever-lively Rivaldo, Barcelona couldn't find a way through, as Real Madrid’s legends held firm to take the bragging rights in this special edition of one of football’s fiercest rivalries.
