Al Jazira said South Korean midfielder had problem but cardiologists back home disagree
Dubai: Lee Yong-rae, the South Korean midfielder who was overlooked by Al Jazira for failing a medical earlier this month, is “completely healthy”, according to cardiologists in Seoul.
The 26-year-old’s transfer from Suwon Bluewings to Al Jazira fell through ten days after it was announced, after Lee’s medical allegedly found the player to be suffering from a rare congenital heart disorder called Long QT syndrome. Fellow Korean Shin Hyung-min of Poohang Steelers was signed by Al Jazira instead.
But cardiologists in Seoul have since rubbished the claims, granting Lee a clean bill of health. “He did not have any cardiac symptoms and any family history of sudden cardiac death,” said Seoul-based cardiologist Kim June-soo following fresh electrocardiogram and genetic tests. “His genetic tests for Long QT syndrome did not show any abnormal findings.”
Lee told Korean press: “I had gone through a lot and, fortunately, nothing is wrong with my body. I’ve not been much help to the team [Suwon Bluewings] because of the transfer matters. I’d like to help us win the championship in the new round.”
