London: Ruud Gullit has said he would consider becoming Australia coach when Pim Verbeek leaves after the World Cup finals.

Verbeek will step down after two-and-a-half years as Socceroos coach because of demands on family and his desire to return to Europe.

Australia forward Harry Kewell is winning his race to be fit for their opening World Cup game on June 13.

He looks set to be included in Verbeek's final squad of 23 which will be announced after a warm-up game against Denmark today.

Nigeria

Meanwhile, Nigeria have excluded Victor Anichebe from their 23-man squad for the World Cup finals.

New Nigeria boss Lars Lagerback dropped seven players in his final cut.

Everton striker Anichebe was overlooked in favour of fellow English-based forwards Yakubu, Nwankwo Kanu and John Utaka.

Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi was included despite missing the end of the season with a knee injury.

Kanu will captain the side at his third World Cup.
