Goalkeeper's lapse costs Al Nasr win against Al Ahli
Dubai: Al Nasr showed fine form on Sunday to force a 1-1 draw with league leaders Al Ahli at Rashid stadium at the Al Ahli club.
Al Nasr could have won had not Brazilian Cezar saved the day for Al Ahli by scoring the equaliser six minutes from the final whistle after taking the advantage of a mistake by Al Nasr goalkeeper Abdullah Mousa.
Al Nasr took the lead in the 71st minute through Mohammad Omar. Omar capitalised on a poor collection by Al Ahli custodian Obaid Al Taweelah following a corner kick.
The draw means Al Ahli and Al Ain share top spot on the league table with 27 points each, with Al Ain having a better goal difference.
The one point has lifted Al Nasr to eighth place with 13 points.
Al Nasr were on their way to beating Al Ahli had not their custodian Abdullah Mousa been slow to pick up the ball before Al Ahli's Esmail Hammadi got to it. The resulting skirmish led to a corner from which Cezar scored the equaliser.
"I didn't pick the ball quickly because I want to waste time to help maintain our narrow 1ead, but I was unlucky that Hammadi reached the ball before I picked it up," said Mousa.
In the other matches played on Sunday, goals by Merdad Owladi and Adil Abdullah helped Al Shabab beat Al Shaab 2-1 at the latter's stadium.
Ghanian Godwin Atram scored for the home team. Al Shabab are now at ninth spot with 13 points while Al Shaab drop to the bottom.
