Glasgow: Liverpool great Steven Gerrard has been appointed coach of Scottish club Rangers. Rangers says the 37-year-old Gerrard signed a four-year contract in what is his first managerial job. Since ending his playing career in 2016 with the LA Galaxy, Gerrard has been a youth team coach at Liverpool. Gerrard says he is honoured to manage Rangers and has “enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition.”

The club, however, has fallen behind city rival Celtic, which has won seven straight Scottish league titles. Gerrard never won a Premier League title in 17 seasons with Liverpool, but he captained the team to win the Champions League in 2005.
